RS Off-Road Tackle the Scottish Summer Hill Rally

Earlier this month, our partners, RS Off-Road took on one of the UK’s toughest off-road motorsport challenges: The Tunnock’s Scottish Summer Hill Rally, marking their first competitive outing of the season. With over 85 stage miles completed across unforgiving terrain, this event was a true test of man, machine, and materials.

A Tough Start to the Season

The rally spanned two days of intense driving across a mix of moorland bogs, gravel, grass, and farm tracks, much of it on previously unused ground. Add to that the unpredictable Scottish weather, and it was clear this wouldn’t be an easy season opener. Despite these challenges, the RS Off-Road Land Rover Discovery held up remarkably well.

Our Oils, Their Reliability

We’re proud to supply RS Off-Road with our high-performance lubricants, and this event served as a prime showcase of their resilience. Despite a minor mistake on Saturday that cost some time and momentum, the car remained mechanically sound throughout the rally.

In high-heat, high-load scenarios typical of off-road motorsport, our CFS 5w40 NT+ helped keep engine and components running smoothly, and CRX 75w90 NT+ provided smooth, reliable power delivery, even under constant stress. Precision steering input was maintained thanks to XF Premium ATF MV in the power steering system, while braking remained sharp and responsive with the use of our Racing Brake Fluid 300 Plus.

Results & Reflections

The team crossed the Scottish Summer Hill Rally finish line 27th overall out of 35, and 2nd in class. A solid performance, especially considering they didn’t finish this event last year. It may not have been the position they were aiming for, but given the terrain and weather, just making it to the finish was a great achievement.

Looking Ahead

While the cancellation of the Dorset Hill Rally leaves a gap in their 2025 calendar, the team has their sights set on the Scottish Borders Hill Rally in November.
