Meet the Team – Mark Grundy – Professional HGV Class 2 Driver

This week we are celebrating National Lorry Week, so to continue with our Meet the Team series, we caught up with one of our HGV drivers, Mark Grundy.

What is your role at Millers Oils?

I have been employed at Millers Oils for the last 16 years. Throughout my time, I have carried out the duties of a Professional Heavy Goods Driver Class 2, I have also obtained my ADR (Dangerous Goods Certificate) which is a legal requirement for the goods we transport.

How did you get into this role?

All my life I have enjoyed driving, I have held the licence category for above 30 years. Being local, I have always known about Millers Oils and do not live far from the depot, so when a vacancy arose, I applied, and fortunately enough, was taken on for the role of Professional HGV Class 2 driver.

What does a typical day look like for you?

On arrival at work, I carry out my vehicle pre use checks. I then check my load is secure, check my delivery notes and inform customers of an approximate time of delivery. I ensure that my delivery notes are always in drop order, and proceed on my route ready to carry out my tasks throughout the day.

Upon return to the Millers Oils depot, I clear away any collections that I may have brought back, fill my vehicle with fuel for the next day, sweep the bed of the vehicle, and hand in all delivery notes for what I have delivered throughout the day. I then proceed to check off my notes for the following day, and load the stock using the counterbalance.

What is your favourite thing to listen to whilst driving?

I tune into any 70’s radio station.

What is your go-to productivity trick?

Just to make sure I organise my day, this ensures that I carry out my tasks efficiently and economically.

What is your favourite drink or snack to have whilst working?

I always drink coffee from a flask whilst out, and I generally take plenty of fruit for my journey. I enjoy healthy eating.

What is your favourite thing about working at Millers Oils?

I enjoy being out on the open road, talking to customers, and being the face of Millers Oils whilst out on task.
