The first half of the 2026 MINI CHALLENGE JCW season has been a story of strong pace, resilience, and determination for Harry Hickton. While results haven’t always reflected his speed, the Mannpower Motorsport driver has consistently demonstrated front-running potential and remains competitive as the championship heads into its summer break.
The season began with frustration at Donington Park. Hickton showed top-five pace throughout practice and qualifying, securing fourth overall in qualifying and running near the front across the weekend. However, some excessive driving in both Sunday races, including contact in Race 2, denied him the opportunity to convert that pace into podium finishes, leaving him with a best result of fifth despite showing genuine race-winning potential.
Brands Hatch marked a turning point. Hickton enjoyed one of his strongest qualifying performances in the series, earning pole position for Race 1 on second-fastest lap times. He went on to secure his first podium of the season with a superb second-place finish, overcoming power steering issues to hold off the chasing pack. Additional points finishes helped him climb the championship standings and provided a welcome reward for the pace shown throughout the opening rounds.
At Snetterton, Hickton continued to showcase his consistency and racecraft. A qualifying issue left him ninth on the grid despite impressive pace in practice, but he fought back throughout the weekend with a series of determined drives. Two fifth-place finishes and another points-scoring result highlighted his ability to recover from adversity, while his charge through the field in the final race suggested a podium challenge was within reach.
Oulton Park brought another setback when a mechanical issue in qualifying resulted in his lap times being deleted, forcing him to start from the back of the grid. Despite the disappointment, Hickton once again demonstrated his fighting spirit, carving through the field in both races to finish just outside the top ten. Away from the MINI CHALLENGE, he also enjoyed a memorable outing in the CTCRC Pre-83 Touring Cars, securing a podium finish in his father’s Opel Kadett.
Across the first four rounds, Hickton has repeatedly shown the pace to compete at the front, with strong qualifying performances, a maiden podium of the season, and a string of consistent points finishes. While bad luck, contact, and mechanical issues have prevented bigger results, his ability to recover and score points has kept him firmly in the championship battle.
As the season reaches its midpoint, the signs are encouraging. With confidence and momentum evident, Hickton will head into the second half of the campaign looking to turn strong performances into further podiums, race wins, and a sustained challenge at the sharp end of the MINI CHALLENGE JCW field.
The MINI CHALLENGE now heads into its summer break before returning at Knockhill in August.
