At Moorfield German Motors, the Millers Oils Emissions Performance Programme (EPP) has become a valuable diagnostic and preventative maintenance tool, helping to resolve issues that might otherwise have resulted in unnecessary component replacement or more extensive repairs.
A customer brought in a transporter van after experiencing ongoing performance issues and concerns that the turbocharger was failing. Based on the symptoms, the driver had already concluded that a replacement turbo would be required and was preparing to order a new unit.
As part of the service, Moorfield Garage carried out the full EPP treatment, including an Engine Flush and Diesel System Cleaner.
Following the service, the customer went ahead and ordered a replacement turbo. However, the next day he contacted the garage with a very different concern.
“What have you done to it?”
The vehicle was no longer entering limp mode and the performance issues had completely disappeared.
The EPP treatment had successfully removed deposits affecting the turbocharger system, restoring normal operation and eliminating the symptoms that had led the customer to believe the turbo had failed.
As a result, the customer cancelled the turbo order, avoided a significant repair bill, and has continued to have the vehicle serviced by Moorfield Garage ever since. According to the team, the turbo-related issues have never returned.
In another case, an Audi A3 V6 arrived at the workshop with severe running issues. The vehicle would stall as soon as the throttle was touched and was unable to maintain a stable idle speed.
To investigate, the technicians held the engine at approximately 2,000 rpm while carrying out an oil change and applying the EPP Engine Flush treatment. Given the severity of the contamination, the flush process was performed twice before fresh oil was added.
The results were immediate.
Following the treatment, the engine returned to a stable idle and the drivability issues disappeared.
The underlying cause was not a major mechanical fault, but simply significant internal contamination that was affecting engine operation. By removing the deposits and restoring oil flow, the EPP treatment resolved the problem without the need for more extensive repairs.
These examples demonstrate how EPP can help garages identify and resolve issues caused by contamination before unnecessary parts are replaced. In both cases, the treatment delivered a clear and measurable improvement, saving customers time and money while reinforcing confidence in the garage’s recommendations.
As the team at Moorfield Garage often explains to customers, if contamination is causing the problem, EPP will usually find the solution.
