2022 Ginetta Race Report: Brands Hatch

James Kellett on a racing podium holding up his trophy and champion announcement

Five champions were crowned during a thrilling season finale for the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and Ginetta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch this past weekend (08/09 October).

On a captivating weekend of action around the world-famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, Millers Oils brand ambassador James Kellett made history as he became the final ever overall champion in the GT4 SuperCup.

Kellett scored a hat-trick of top three finishes across the weekend in his Ginetta G56 GT4 to seal the title and end the season with 18 podiums from 20 races, including an all-time championship record tally of 13 victories in a single season.

Tom Emson cemented second in the final championship standings with a brilliant pair of race wins on Saturday, taking his total for the season to five, while 2021 Junior champion Aston Millar signed off a great campaign with his maiden victory.

In the G56 Am class, Wes Pearce secured title glory having impressively finished off the podium only once all year. The G55 Pro battle went down to the final race of the season, with Luke Reade edging out Blake Angliss by just three points, while Ian Duggan emerged victorious in G55 Am for his second career Ginetta title.

Having entered the weekend with seven wins in the previous 11 races and a comfortable 98-point lead, a second place finish in the opening race was more than enough to secure Josh Rowledge the Ginetta Junior title with two races to spare.

His main challenger to the overall crown and the 2022 rookie class champion Will Macintyre signed off his brilliant maiden campaign with a sixth victory, while 2021 series runner-up Liam McNeilly secured his long-awaited first two wins of the season.

Aqil Alibhai, Luke Watts and Kanato Le ended the year with overall podium finishes, and while Ginetta Junior scholarship winner Alisha Palmowski had a tough finale weekend in her Millers Oils backed Ginetta, she will look back fondly at a trio of class podium finishes across her impressive rookie campaign.
