Who are the members of Millers Oils Fluid Management Division?

  • Jordan Wimpenny – UK Sales Development Manager: Fluid Management Division
  • David Mulliner – Fluid Management Technician
  • Zane Alqadi – Fluid Management Technician
  • Leanne Smith – Fluid Management Coordinator

Tell me about the Fluid Management Division and what you do

The Millers Oils Fluid Management Division helps businesses with preventative maintenance. We implement programmes for metal working fluid customers to manage their water soluble cutting fluids, improving performance and ensuring HSE compliance.

We also help businesses within the injection/ blow moulding and baler sectors to implement fluid management programmes to help protect their capital equipment, and to assist maintenance departments with oil preventative maintenance.

Working directly with the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in these sectors, and liaising with our lab and technical departments, we are able to offer the best advice, services and products. Our team supply high-quality hydraulic oil and monitor to ensure that the OEM cleanliness specifications are achieved or surpassed. These results are confirmed by lab analysis post filtration.

How long has the Fluid Management Division been operating?

The current Millers Oils Fluid Management Division has been in operation for about a year, but you might remember it previously as ‘Millers-Xtra’. Over the years, Millers Oils has invested, evolved and refined our fluid management team to become what it is today.

What does a typical day look like for the technicians?

As a fluid management technician, the main duties are helping businesses to implement and manage fluid management programmes, these are split into 2 main sectors: Metal working fluids and Hydraulics. Some of our daily tasks include:

  • Attending customer sites to obtain various samples for analysis.
  • On-site pre filtering hydraulic oil for initial oil fills.
  • Visiting customers to carry out testing of metal working fluids ensuring HSE compliance.
  • Monitoring metal working fluids through refractometer/ pH & dip sliding reports/ results.
  • Sampling hydraulic oils to help customers prolong the life of the oil and protect the machines sensitive components.
  • Processing of oil sample results and working closely with the lab to test data, offering solutions and advising customers of recommended actions.
  • Carrying out filtration, oil changes or cleanout work according to sample or testing result.

What is the worst thing you’ve seen on a job?

An injection moulding OEM called us in to see if we could assist with an oil related issue at one of their customers’ sites. The machine was suffering from sticking valves and the filters were having to be changed regularly. There was a sign of varnish build-up, so we recommended using our Milliclean 1000t.

During the Milliclean procedure the tank showed a heavy build-up of varnish and sludge, the worst we’ve ever seen! Our Milliclean 1000t proved very successful at cleaning the full system and resolved the machine of all the oil related issues. The customer was amazed at the end result and has continued to use our Fluid Management services.
