To follow on with our Meet the Team series, we caught up with our National Automotive Sales Manager, Callum Cooper, who has worked at Millers Oils for over 6 years.
As the National Automotive Sales Manager at Millers Oils, I have the incredible opportunity to oversee and lead the sales team for our automotive division. It’s a role that I absolutely love and feel so fortunate to have. I actually started working at Millers Oils through the Academy programme, after an open day, a few interviews and some tests I finally was enrolled as a trainee sales executive. I had always been passionate about the automotive industry and knew that this was where I wanted to build my career after spending almost 6 years working at Halfords whilst studying at Leeds Beckett University. Millers Oils saw my potential and after 6 months signed me off as a sales executive, 18 months later having brought on some new key accounts and managed some existing ones with success, I was promoted to the national key account manager. Just over one year later, through hard work and dedication, I continued to climb the ladder and eventually landed this exciting role as the National Automotive Sales Manager. It’s been an incredible journey!
Now, let me tell you about the best part of my job – and trust me, there are so many amazing aspects to it! One of the things I absolutely adore is the opportunity to work with a team of incredibly talented and passionate individuals. Collaborating with like-minded people who share the same love for the automotive industry is truly invigorating. Our team year on year have exceeded expectations through teamwork, hard work and by taking a customer service focused approach. Additionally, being able to connect with our customers and help them find the perfect solutions for their automotive needs brings me immense joy. It’s that feeling of satisfaction when you know you’ve made a positive impact on someone’s business or automotive experience that keeps me excited every single day.
Throughout my career, I’ve learned countless valuable lessons, but if I had to choose one that stands out, it would be the importance of adaptability. The automotive industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies, trends, and customer demands emerging all the time. Being able to adapt to these changes and embrace them with enthusiasm is crucial for success. It’s essential to stay curious, keep learning, and be open to new ideas. Embracing change and continuously evolving has been a game-changer for me. Without this early lesson, the effects of Brexit followed by the global pandemic could have been much worse for us at Millers Oils.
When I was a child, but even more so now, I’d always look up to role models and leaders (some of those jokers who know me would still say I have to look up). Because of this, combined with my obsession with sport I eventually set my sights on becoming a sports teacher at either secondary or college levels. My poor parents had to support me with football, boxing, cricket and many other activities. Sport very much attributed to who I am today, socialising, teamwork, hard work, discipline and most importantly, the leadership qualities it provides can be a backbone for any career.
Outside of work, I have a few favourite things that bring me immense joy. One of them is spending quality time with my family and friends. Whether it’s going on adventures, sharing laughter, or simply enjoying a delicious meal together, those moments are precious to me. Additionally, I have a new found passion for photography. Capturing beautiful moments and exploring the world through the lens of my camera allows me to express my creativity and find inspiration in the everyday.
It could go without saying, owning a classic mini cooper! After all it’s in the name, I’ve always been drawn to them. Funnily enough we’re one of the only lubricant companies who have a specific product for these cars, which opens up lots of doors to see these wonderful cars in the flesh often. In case you’re wondering, the product is Millers Oils Classic Mini 20w50, it’s unique as it’s formulated with gear oil additives, so the gearbox can get the protection it always needed as it shares the same oil sump as the engine.
