This week, as part of our meet the team and in collaboration with our technical partnership with Ginetta, we caught up with James Kellett, who recently made history at Knockhill with 8 wins of 8 on the road racing in the GT4 Supercup! We discussed all things cars, racing to dailies, who inspires him to continue doing what he does best and the challenges he has faced on the way! Here’s how it went….

What best advice can you give to someone young wanting to get into motorsport?

Find your local karting track and go take part in some novice karting events. I’d also start to follow different variations of motorsport, not just Formula 1. I.e, touring cars or GT racing.

Where did your passion for racing stem from?

My passion came from having a love of cars and racing from a very young age. I was never forced to start racing by my parents, I always had a hunger to win at everything I did and the one thing I enjoyed the most was anything that involved an engine and speed.

Obviously, you have done amazing this season! Do you feel more pressure because of this?

The more wins I get this year the more confident I become! The only pressure I feel is the pressure I put on myself to be the best version of myself.

What do you do to calm your nerves before a race?

I believe nerves are a good thing and they get your mind prepared for what’s about to happen. For me, I just get in the race car and drive fast.

What do you like to do outside of racing?

I love to keep fit so most of the time I’m not racing or working I’m training with my athletics group or at the gym.

If you weren’t to follow a career down the motorsport route – what would your dream job be and why?

My dream job away from cars and racing would be to be a professional athlete for my country competing at the highest level of athletics/ running.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration would have to be my parents for who they are and what they have done for me over the years of racing.

What is your favourite circuit?

For me, I love every track to race on but if I were to choose one in the UK I’d say Brands Hatch GP. Favourite race track in the world would have to be between Algarve (Portimao), Nurburgring or Zandvoort.

What is your personal car? Or favourite car brand?

My personal car is a BMW 3 series but my favourite road car manufacturer is Pagani.

What biggest challenge you have faced so far?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced in racing is to keep bringing the backing/ Sponsorship or budget needed to put myself on a grid each year. The racing part is the easy bit.
