2022 Ginetta Preview: Croft

Ginetta and Millers Oils will enjoy their home race event of the 2022 season this weekend (25/26 June), as the Ginetta Junior Championship and Ginetta GT5 Challenge compete at Croft in North Yorkshire.

The short trip north to Dalton-On-Trees brings the first half of the British Touring Car Championship season to a close, with a large Yorkshire crowd set to fill the spectator banks for another action-packed weekend of action, including four Ginetta races.

The Ginetta Junior Championship and its talented entry of 14 to 17 year old drivers will be tackling their fourth meeting of the season. Josh Rowledge comes to Yorkshire at the top of the points standings, having recorded a brilliant second win of the year at Thruxton last time out.

Harri Reynolds was previously the championship leader and has scored more podium finishes than anyone else, with six in eight races. Ian Aguilera scored a maiden win at Thruxton, adding him to the roll call of 2022 race-winners with Rowledge, Reynolds, William Macintyre and Kanato Le.

Macintyre and Le are two of the rookies on the grid, with the new racing talents once again shining against their more experienced adversaries. Amongst those to also feature on the class podium have been Sonny Smith, Luke Watts, Mckenzie Douglass and Ginetta Junior scholar Alisha Palmowski.

The Ginetta GT5 Challenge meanwhile makes its third and final appearance of the season alongside the BTCC. Following some entertaining races at Thruxton, Will Jenkins is the current championship leader having recorded more wins (three) and podium finishes (eight) than anyone else.

Harley Haughton ignited his title challenge at Thruxton with a double win, while Connor Grady held the points lead prior to that event and remains firmly in contention. Fellow race-winners Will Orton and Nat Hodgkiss are ones to watch this weekend as well.

The hugely competitive championship has many other podium contenders including Mikey Doble, Ruben Hage, Aidan Hills and Dave Sutton, while its secondary class for ‘Amateur’ drivers has an exciting title battle shaping up between Chris White, Karim Sekkat and Paolo Santi.
