9th in Wales Rally GB
Our home round of the WRC was again using Deeside as the base, with an excellent service park where fans could see the cars close up, as well as enjoy all sorts of other entertainments.
Martin Prokop finished 9th overall after a day spent battling with 2 works team drivers. He held off Hayden Paddon all day to secure more points for him, his co driver Jan Tomanek and the team in the constructors championship. They were trading seconds on many of the stages. Martin commented his car was perfect on the final day. The final stage of the rally, and season, was the Power Stage which saw Martin taking fastest time and holding this until the VWs came along. There should be some good coverage of Martin on this stage on ITV4 Tuesday night at 8 o'clock.
Martin finishes his season in 9th place overall, again the top privateer and the top non works team.
The rally was also an occaision for drivers in all other classes to tackle the stages used by the WRC cars. A great variety of cars was on show, from Excorts of all ages, to Metro 6R4s, a rare Lancia Stratos and 71 year old Jimmy McRae in a classic Vauxhall Firenza.
